Saint-Gobain Production Superintendent in BLUE DIAMOND, Nevada

POSITION SUMMARY

Consistent with CertainTeed Gypsum Vision, Mission, Values and Objectives, the Production Superintendent provides the leadership to improve plant performance to world class levels of safety, environmental impact, quality, service and efficiency, within the financial internal controls framework. This position is responsible for leading the production team’s performance to effectively achieve maximum production and operating efficiencies within safety, quality, service and cost standards. The Las Vegas Manufacturing Facility has one production line.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Reports directly to the Production Manager with a dotted line to the Performance Improvement

  • Manager for process engineering projects. The Production Superintendent is the designated fill in for the Production Manager in his or her absence.

  • Evaluates, coaches, mentors, trains and disciplines direct (salaried) and indirect (hourly) Production Department subordinates as needed.

  • Has extensive latitude for non-reviewed actions and the exercise of independent judgment and discretion with established policies and procedures.

  • Manages direct labor cost/variances through scheduling based on production volumes. Ensures raw material usages are in agreement with product BOM’s.

  • Coordinates production to meet customer demands ensuring the maintenance work and project implementation outages are optimized.

  • Works with Supply Chain to ensure MPS and streamline are optimized in regards for Working Capital and the cut list

  • Provides an accident free workplace while maintaining status as the preferred supplier of quality products and service with a goal of world class yield, availability, and reliability.

  • Continuously evaluates workplace for safety concerns and ensures behavioral safety initiatives are performed to goal levels.

  • Ensures product quality control in all production areas, including: Compliance with quality step 0 control plan; management of defective product; support for product & process trials.

  • Ensures environmental controls, audits and checks are in place, and incident investigation, follow up and reporting are followed.

  • Directly supervises four shift leaders

  • Fosters a high-performance team environment through engagement, buy-in and contribution:

  • Models company Vision, Mission and Values and ensures employees model the same.

  • Champions Organizational Health within the plant, including; Implementation of company standard methods (5 Dysfunctions model, conflict resolution tools, etc) to all department employees

  • Ensures that the company standard Area Improvement Board (AIB) process is active and healthy in the plant

  • Ensures the safe, effective and efficient utilization of labor, materials, equipment, and in-process inventories in the production of all products.

  • Conducts regular performance reviews with team members (formal and informal)-

  • Continuously evaluates production performance and focuses on continuous improvement in areas of opportunity/non-compliance.

  • Ensures use of the standard EWO/Quick Kaizen process to ensure problem root causes are identified and losses are accurately reported and improvements achieved

  • Uses technical knowledge and experience to coach others.

  • Utilizes and manager the HERCA tracking system to attack human error losses within the production teams.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Six to eight (6-8) years of applied professional experience working in production in an industrial / manufacturing environment.

  • Three to four (3-4) years of direct or indirect supervisory experience.

  • Familiarity with Lean / World Class principles and practices.

  • Strong ability to influence change, including communication and conflict management skills.

  • Results driven, flexible and open-minded with good written and oral communication.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
