Saint-Gobain Preventative Maintenance Tech - Days - 7am-3:30pm in Buffalo, New York

GENERAL DESCRIPTION/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Safety is of primary importance to this and all positions. The Maintenance PM Technician I is primarily

responsible to:

  • Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, and using continuous improvement tools and principles, this position is responsible to perform pm’s, repair, troubleshoot, and improve existing production equipment used in the production and fabrication of CertainTeed’s Fence, Deck, and Railing products.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Safely perform PM’s and repair production equipment such as but not limited to extruders, saws, pullers, routers, pumps, blowers, motors, loading systems, conveyors, and other various production equipment, etc.

  • Perform basic electrical functions such as but not limited to building extension cords up to 480v 3 phase; basic wiring of motors (A/C and D/C), pumps, lighting, etc….

  • Perform preventative maintenance, track, record and update tasks in the maintenance management system on a computer database

  • Administrative duties – processing SAP work orders, signing out parts using a scan gun, and ordering parts through a purchase order system

  • Perform STOP safety audits and entering data in Auditmatic

  • Perform other tasks as requested by the supervisor

EDUCATION

High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) is required

2 year Certification, or degree in mechanical, electrical, welding, or machining preferred

EXPERIENCE

2 years of experience in mechanical/electrical maintenance position required

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Must have a safety first mindset

  • Basic computer knowledge or experience in Word, Excel, and Access preferred

  • Certified Lockout/Tagout user

  • Basic math and reading skills.

  • Ability to identify equipment failures before they occur, determine root causes, identify the solutions, correct problems, verify that the solution has eliminated the problem is required

  • Ability to use basic hand tools, and basic machine shop tools

  • Ability to recognize and address issues such as oil and filter conditions, abnormal noises on equipment, and/or abnormal conditions on equipment such as excessive wear, misalignment, damage, etc

  • Recognize recurring problems and work to eliminate them

  • Use continuous improvement principles to improve our safety, quality, service, and efficiency

  • Able and willing to wear proper PPE required for the job.

  • Maintain positive, outgoing and professional attitude to effectively communicate.

  • Must be able to lift between 5-20 pounds individually, higher with a partner

  • Follow all Company Policies.

  • Must have ability to learn how to weld, fabricate jigs, and operate standard machine shop equipment ( Mill, lathe, surface grinder and etc)

  • Must be able to work overtime with little to no notice

  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail and housekeeping

  • Must provide own basic hand tools such as wrenches ( metric/std), screw drivers, nut drivers, pliers, side cutters, socket sets ( metric/std), pry bar, air tools ( die grinder, drill, etc)

  • Must be willing to obtain or have already, Electrical Safety training (NFPA-70E) within 3 months of moving into position

  • Must successfully complete CertainTeed forklift and scissor lift training

  • Job functions will require standing for the duration of the shift, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders and clasping in hands during workday.
