Saint-Gobain CNC Lathe Operator - 1st Shift in Cleveland, Ohio

Job Summary

Operate CNC machines (Lathes) with moderate supervision to produce Aerospace quality parts using Thermoplastic and Thermoset materials. Set up and operate computer numerical control machines to fabricate parts per work order/drawing requirements in a safety conscious and quality-focused manner. The role is accountable to load parts in the machine, cycle the machine and detect malfunctions in machine operations, such as worn or damaged cutting tools. Utilize hand tools to deburr, de-gate, or polish and package all production in accordance with the router steps and stamp off operations before moving to the next operation. The position runs productions lots, communicates with co-workers regarding production runs, and maintains a safe, organized and clean work environment.

Essential Functions

  • Use safe practices and comply with all company policies, procedures and health, safety and environmental regulations, as required

  • Conduct safety observations and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) activities as required by our plant EHS manager

  • Follow all safety requirements pertaining to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and operation of equipment

  • Maintains work space before, during, and after each scheduled shift in accordance with 5S principles

  • Complete all paperwork correctly and legibly

  • Contribute towards continuous improvement processes and projects in the areas of output, quality, cost and delivery

  • Assist in identification of potential aspects and impacts to the environment; participate in activities (i.e., recycling and other environmental initiatives) to minimize adverse environmental impacts

  • Record data, record and report problems, escalating them by the necessary protocol as they arise.

  • Successfully complete simple skilled jobs with moderate supervision

  • Observe machine operations and verify product quality against blueprint and engineering drawings

  • Deburr parts

  • Use micrometers, calibers, height stands, and comparator

  • Identify abnormalities in machining process (i.e., tool wear, surface finish, and foreign object debris)

  • Basic blueprint reading

  • Meet ongoing production quotas while working within very close tolerances in a machine-shop production environment.

  • Contribute to team effort by performing other supporting tasks as directed by the Production Supervisor or Cell Lead.

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent

  • Experience working on CNC Lathes in a manufacturing environment

  • Basic computer and math skills

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time

  • Ability to work in above ambient temperatures

  • Maintain high attendance standards

  • Ability to strictly adhere to written and verbal instructions

  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs on a daily basis
