Saint-Gobain Microbiologist I - Manufacturing, Life Sciences in GAITHERSBURG, Maryland

Saint-Gobain is looking for a driven, talented, and energetic microbiologist to join our Analytical Services and Quality Control team to conduct hands-on laboratory quality control testing of Saint-Gobain Life Sciences Products in our laboratory facility in Gaithersburg, MD.

Saint-Gobain Life Sciences develops and manufactures high-performance components and integrated solutions for biopharmaceutical manufacturing, medical devices, filtration processes, cell therapy solutions, and laboratory products. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to leverage their microbiology expertise by performing quality control testing on Saint-Gobain products and assemblies, providing environmental cleanroom monitoring services, participating in test method validations, and supporting the maintenance of ASQC’s ISO 17025 Laboratory Accreditation status. The new team member will execute quality control testing, analyze data, generate laboratory reports, contribute to product data summaries, and develop/revise test methods with guidance.

Critical job duties include:

  • Product bioburden, inoculated and exhaustive recovery testing, and other activities in support of the bioburden program in accordance with ISO 11737-1

  • Process water and product Bacterial Endotoxin testing in accordance with USP<85>

  • Environmental monitoring testing, including selection, subculturing, and identification of organisms according to Sponsor requests

  • Prepare test reports for all testing they have performed

  • Review test records, test reports, and/or train new analysts, as required

  • Play a leading role in managing the lab, including 5S, safety, lab audit requirements, equipment maintenance, lab supplies

  • Participate in laboratory continuous improvement activities, including quality audits, SOP reviews, EHS training, implementation of new best practices, and personal development

  • Provide technical assistance to the sales & marketing departments. Participate in technical meetings with internal and external customers

Required Qualifications:

  • BS Degree, in Microbiology, Biology, Bioengineering, Biochemistry or other relevant Science or Engineering.

  • Minimum of 1+ years of hands on experience with microbiology testing:

  • Bioburden test assays, including bacterial and fungal identification

  • Endotoxin test assas

  • Demonstrated knowledge of proper aseptic technique

  • Adherence to all gowning requirements when tasked with work in the cleanroom, including, being prohibited from wearing perfume/cologne, cosmetics, makeup, and jewelry

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of hands-on industrial microbiology experience

  • Familiarity with ISO, USP, and EP Standards Organizations

  • Experience with optical microscopy

  • Experience with working in a cleanroom environment

Saint-Gobain aims to deliver a comprehensive Total Rewards package to support our employees’ wellbeing and help improve daily life for themselves and their families. We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer prospective candidates and provide the national pay range for this position which is $66,900 to $103,500 -per year, however, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.

In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 9% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures. The Total Target Cash range (base pay and annual bonus) for this position, is $72,921 to $112,815 . Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is not a guarantee.
