Saint-Gobain Demand Planning Manager in Malvern, Pennsylvania

The Demand Planning Manager oversees the accuracy and execution of forecasting for the Ceilings and Gypsum businesses (both manufactured and sourced items). He/she supports the development of market analysis with the sales and marketing teams, facilitates the S&OP Demand Review meetings in line with business objectives, increases the accuracy of forecasting, provides demand planning support, and manages the data accurately in the SAP APO module. This role also oversees the team and is responsible for Distribution Requirements Planning (DRP) for both businesses.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Facilitate the sales forecast process for both Ceilings and Gypsum businesses:

  • Develop the sales forecast model, collect data, support sales in the monthly demand review process using historic data, input from sales and marketing on economic indicators and customer specific requirements to decide on the best forecast for mid-term (3 month) planning for all facilities and regional markets

  • Demand forecasting, at both aggregate and SKU levels

  • Develop demand forecasts (operational forecasts) at multiple levels of aggregation for multiple time horizons as part of a demand planning function

  • Review historical sales trends, research demand drivers, prepare forecast data, develop statistical forecast models, and evaluate forecast results

  • Coordinate cross-functional research activities to reconcile significant variances and refine the forecast model to reflect updated sales and marketing assumptions

  • Interact with Sales, Marketing, and Finance to understand demand forecast drivers

  • Integrate the job pipeline for the ceilings business.

  • Manage the opportunity-to-quote-to-order process

  • Tracking, managing and correcting (in real time) sale - to forecast - to budget, ensuring sales match the forecasts and working with sales on areas of deviation

  • Utilize a collaborative and consensus approach by working with Sales, Marketing and Finance to obtain and ensure that current and accurate information is used for demand forecasts

  • Use and maintain the SAP APO as the primary forecasting system tool

  • Provide input to the production planning team in developing inventory strategies on existing items, new products, and product phase-outs

  • Closely coordinate and communicate customer action plans with supply planning

  • Maintenance of planning data in ERP system to align with service and inventory objectives

  • Regular reporting of key metrics

  • Ad hoc reporting and data analysis as required by the business

  • Process improvement initiatives, aimed at service, working capital, and cost

  • Ensure on time stock transfers to maintain low cost and a high level of service

60% Demand Planning

  • Create statistical forecasts:

  • Gather, analyze and validate data

  • Execute statistical modeling software

  • Review resulting statistical forecast model

  • Apply error analysis techniques to improve forecasting

  • Summarize/aggregate statistical forecasts

  • Review sales plans, finance budget updates or latest estimates and demand drivers:

  • Present, solicit, and assess feedback on the various forecasts from sales, and finance

  • Recommend adjustments for operational forecasts

  • Review promotional plans with sales

  • Achieve consensus for operational demand forecasts by facilitating a collaborative planning process with sales, marketing and finance personnel:

  • Prepare relevant material to facilitate research and discussion

  • • Provide input to volume planning ( Latest Estimates / annual process)

  • Facilitate and manage demand planning/customer meetings

  • Achieve consensus with the business side and the demand chain

  • Maintain demand planning system and software

  • Enter and modify data and ensure the correctness of product hierarchy

  • Monitor trends in forecast error

  • Identify relevant market-related data and competitive intelligence

  • Prepare and maintain relevant reports pertaining to demand planning process

30% Inventory and DRP Optimization

  • Constantly manage the trade-off between inventory, operations utilization and service in line with the groups strategic S&OP plan

  • Manage the dynamic monthly process of calculating and checking calcualtions on inventory investment and operations utilization levels for assigned finished goods across plants/warehouses

  • Develop and maintain the Inventory Stratification model (ABC XYX Analysis)

  • Support Director with sensitivity analysis (what-if modeling) to measure impact of changes in demand and supply variability to inventory requirements.

  • DRP / Sourced Products process for inter-planted and outside purchased finished goods across assigned facilities

  • Review planned orders and modify as needed per established guidelines

  • Develop, maintain, and measure the monthly F.G. Inventory targets by plants for assigned DRP material

  • Perform freight and lane analysis to ensure the best use of our distribution network and equipment, while monitoring carrier service levels

  • Coordinate and facilitate standard meetings with key plant stakeholders on inventory issues to compensate for equipment failures, customer requirements and other supply/demand imbalances

    10% Systems Set-Up and Master File Maintenance

  • Maintain Demand Planning records including MRP and DRP

  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of model for each responsible plant.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, Information Technology or Logistics, or ten (10) years of equivalent training and experience that provides a comprehensive understanding of operational planning principles and practices may be substituted for a degree.

  • Six to eight (6 - 8) years of applied professional experience working in operations planning, specifically 5 years of experience with material requirements planning, and forecast development.

  • Knowledge of SAP APO DP and also in the areas of MRP, DRP and Forecasting (Required)

  • Ability to provide leadership and innovation at all levels of the organization

  • Change management and conflict management skills

  • Strong influencer with good written and oral communication skills, including online meeting management, in-person plant training and PowerPoint

  • Results driven, flexible and open-minded

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

PREFERRED OR DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in technical field or MBA.

  • APICS certification.
