Financial Analyst

Position Description

Job Summary

This position is primarily responsible for providing financial and business analytical support to the CertainTeed Architectural (CTA) Business Unit within the Interior Products Group (IPG). Responsibilities include Business Decision Support, Budgeting and Forecasting, Operations and Business Performance Analysis, Month End Close, and Standard Setting. The Financial Analyst’s main purpose is to analyze and support business decisions and financial results and from this, recommend actions to improve business performance and reduce costs. This position also serves as site controller for CTA distribution centers (Arlington, Berlin, Shelby).

Required Qualifications

Month-end Close and Reporting

The senior financial analyst will be responsible for developing monthly close reports to thoroughly analyze and explain the drivers behind plant performance and manufacturing costs, Capital Expenditures, and Cost of Factors. This will be achieved by collaborating with the plant controllers to understand performance of the operations while aggregating commentary from the Plant Managers and Controllers during the Month-end Financial Close. This role will also handle controlling activities for the distribution centers, including the month-end process. Other monthly responsibilities include running the SMOB program, COPA reconciliations, IFRS16 reporting, R6X reporting, and posting journal entries as required.

Operations and Business Performance Analysis

This analyst will innovate new analytical tools to analyze plant performance and costs and make recommendations for improvements across CTA. Collaborating with the broader IPG Finance community will be essential to drive standardization and streamlining in key workbooks and reports e.g. Plant Budget Book, Plant Packs etc.

Standard Setting

While the standard setting process is a once-a-year, highly technical SAP process, it requires months of preparation and coordination with the Controllers and Finance management. This analyst will help to facilitate the organization for this process and execute the required SAP transactions to upload and activate the new standard costs. The successful execution of this process is vital to the SAP costing mechanism and financial management of our company and requires extensive and deep systems knowledge.

Budget and Forecast Development

Assist extensively in the annual preparation of the budget and rolling forecasts. Primary responsibility for forecasting manufacturing costs, freight costs, distribution center costs and trade goods, aggregating capital expenditure planning, and cost of factors.

Business Decision Analysis

Review business performance and trending, product profitability, and expense control and report results of analysis to management. Based on this analysis recommend actions and keep management apprised of potential risk areas.

Back up support for financial systems

Learn and understand the various IT systems and processes as well as the connection between the system activities and the financials. Learn and understand the various support systems as needed. These include, but are not limited to: SAP, CAPEX+, Tagetik, QlikView (adjusted margins), IA workflow, and GL Wands, IFRS16 module.

Additional Description

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent, complementary work experience

  • Relevant work experience contributing to knowledge regard enterprise wide financial systems (SAP)

  • Cost accounting / analysis experience is preferred

  • Strong IT aptitude to utilize SAP modules and to understand the structure underlying the software

  • Strong aptitude to deliver effective desktop reporting (paperless web-enabled environment), utilize GL Wands and MS Excel and PowerPoint for analysis and presentations as well as SAP ERP knowledge.

  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
