Position Description

What’s the Job?

Open to considering a remote team member, but they must be located in the North East part of the US

The Strategy Manager is a new role created to support the Strategy and Business Development function for CertainTeed’s Roofing business, the largest business unit in North America. Working with the Director, Strategy and Business Development, the Manager will focus on critical issues and opportunities facing the Roofing business and will have considerable visibility within the leadership team.

This individual will need to demonstrate tactical capabilities and sound judgment while being able to see the big picture and “roll up their sleeves” to execute. This position requires a thought partner and strategic listener who can help translate executive messages into aligned communications for different audiences.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy and Business Development

  • Support the translation of corporate strategy into financial and operational plans, including budget and yearly operating plans

  • Facilitate planning efforts, including long-range plan (LRP), annual budget, and strategic goal-setting

  • Develop and maintain strategic initiatives calendar (i.e. LRP, Budget) 

  • Identify, evaluate, and execute inorganic business development opportunities that further Roofing’s strategy

  • Support M&A activities through all phases of the acquisition cycle (evaluation, diligence, integration)

  • For key growth areas, support business model innovation and new business incubation through the creation of strategies, capability planning, and novel business relationships (JVs, JDAs, etc)

Strategic Communications

  • Own communication of the business strategy, ensuring that messages are cohesive, clear, and well-understood both internally and externally – be the ‘voice of the business’

  • Craft compelling and engaging messages that convey complex information in a clear and relatable manner to employees at all levels.

  • Own and direct the creation of visually and verbally engaging presentations and reports from end to end

  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across the organization to gather information and insights for effective communication. Influence and direct colleagues while managing the needs of multiple stakeholders (including relevant senior leaders)

  • Support company meetings by crafting messaging, agenda topics, speaker selection, and logistics

Governance

  • Assist in monitoring inter-connected projects for the business unit leadership team. Provide direct support using your expertise for any strategy/project management issues that require a high level of process knowledge and experience. Serve as a point of escalation for any challenges that arise

  • Ensure that risks and decisions are shared appropriately to keep strategic activities moving forward   

  • Facilitate learning from projects, initiatives and launches (post-mortems, etc.) 

Required Qualifications

What do you bring?

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent; advanced degree a plus but not required

  • 7+ years of industry experience in consulting, strategy, finance, or a similar discipline.

  • 2-3 years of experience working with executive stakeholders

  • Some level of experience in complex organizations is desired. Excellent candidates will have a proven ability to network through an organization (including various functions and levels)

  • Excellent communication skills, including experience translating complex problems into easy-to-follow storylines. Skillful deadline management and ensuring written work (documents and presentations) with high clarity and visual impact

  • Can take a big or ambiguous ask and break it down into smaller, executable steps.

  • Natural intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm for learning. Comfortable with uncertainty

  • A sense of continuous improvement – ‘How can we do that better next time?’

  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to listen, consider alternative views, and solve complex problems.

  • Ability to manage influence – knowing when to challenge the status quo and how to go about it

  • Strong project management skills
