Position Description

Job Summary

What’s the job?

We have a Quality Engineer opening for our new greenfield site in Oxford, NC. The Quality Engineer is responsible for the performance of all products manufactured at the Oxford glass mat facility to established quality standards. The Quality Engineer provides valuable feedback to make improvements in all aspects of the quality program. This position reports directly to the Quality Manager at the Oxford site.

Quality Management Systems

  • Assists in maintaining the plant ISO 9001:2015 certification through process auditing and ownership of CAPA system.

  • Creates local documentation, such as one point lessons, procedures and work instructions.

  • Oversees and/or initiates the development of measurement tools that enable process and product evaluation.

  • Uses statistical process control tools to manage the process and product data and owns the data acquisition tools and systems.

  • Provides communications and training to employees on quality issues and initiatives stemming from customer complaints, yield loss, and/or general improvements.

Risk Management

  • Proactively plans, controls and assures process and product quality in accordance with quality principles and tools such as PFMEA and Control Plans to eliminate potential sources of variation.

  • Collaborates with R&D and Manufacturing to ensure quality standards are integrated into new processes and products so production performance and output is to the standards required. Supports trials for new or improved products.

  • Manages the customer claims resolution process and the corrective action system.

  • Oversees and/or conducts raw material, process and product audits to ensure finished goods conform to specified requirements.

Continuous Improvement

  • Defines, monitors and analyzes quality key operating indicators and coordinates responses to deficiencies or deviations.

  • Monitors the plant Cost of Poor Quality, deploys losses by reason, and drives initiatives to reduce Cost of Poor Quality.

  • Leads root cause analysis and implements corrective actions for internal yield loss events related to product defects, in collaboration with the plant operations team.

  • Promotes technological advances to streamline data collection and analysis.

Required Qualifications

What do you bring?

  • A 4-year degree in an engineering discipline is required. Experience of 2-5 years in Quality or Process Engineering, an ASQ Certificate as Engineer/Auditor/Manager, or certification as a Six Sigma Green Belt are preferred.

  • Ability to use metrology and statistical methods to diagnose and correct improper quality control practices and assess process performance.

  • Understanding of human factors and motivation.

  • Familiarity with quality cost concepts and techniques.

  • Knowledge and ability to develop and administer management information systems and to audit quality systems for deficiency identification and correction.

  • Ability to design experimental methods, conduct testing and analysis, and recommend solutions to process and product issues.

  • Solid written and verbal communication skills in order to affect positive and professional interaction between the department and other internal groups.

  • Fundamental understanding of quality philosophies, principles, systems, methods, tools, standards, organizational and team dynamics, customer expectations and satisfaction, supplier relations and performance, leadership, training, interpersonal relationships, improvement systems and professional ethics.
