Saint-Gobain Controls/Electrical Specialist in STEPHENVILLE, Texas

Provide Control System design, engineering, installation, and maintenance support to Coated Abrasives conversion-manufacturing operations.

  1. Participate in the engineering design, selection, installation, and documentation of control systems (including sensor, device, and motor selections) for new and existing manufacturing machines and equipment. Support assembly, installation, wiring, and required sign-off procedures of control cabinetry, control panels, sensors, devices, and motors on equipment according to CAD drawings.

  2. Work closely with equipment vendors during development cycle to assure that Saint-Gobain’s operation and maintenance requirements are being achieved. Contribute to project scheduling activities and commit to following schedules to their timely completion.

  3. Assist in the development, modification, and installation of distributed and integrated process control systems hardware and software (including sensor logic, motor control logic, and safety/exception/error handling logic) to perform at the maximum process capability while ensuring compatibility.

  4. Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and instructions for the purpose of acquiring components, testing, debugging, and installation of control system hardware. Participate in reviews and revisions of control aspects of all CAD drawings, Bill of Material specifications, assembled control equipment, PLC and Motion Control Design, and all integration activities/plans.

  5. Develop and execute stand-alone equipment control, and manufactured control system test/exercise plans.

  6. Provide technical direction and support to maintenance personnel and other team members in station integration activities.

  7. Troubleshoot machine control systems using engineering prints, flow diagrams, schematics, logic drawings, technical manuals, and other references available. Utilize all available troubleshooting equipment including computers, measuring devices, meters, gauges, scopes, etc. to isolate system failures and restore machinery to running condition with minimal downtime.

  8. Utilize Computed Aided Design Systems to document new designs and modifications to existing designs.

  9. Assist in the training of other maintenance personnel on electrical/control aspects of integrated equipment. Serve as technical resource to personnel using the systems to increase employee effectiveness and meet objectives for user service and education.

  10. Accept special assignments or projects as assigned by supervision. Attend and participate in continuous improvement meetings and projects as assigned.

  11. Observe safety rules, housekeeping, and federal, state, and local regulations at all times.

  12. Interact effectively within a team-oriented work group, taking directions from team project engineers and all others assigned or as necessary to achieve project objectives that is on time, on schedule, within budget, and technically correct.

  13. Utilize color perception in working with electrical wiring or other equipment.

  14. Assist in installation, troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems as required.

  15. All other duties as assigned.

  16. Possess a 2-4 year technical/electronic engineering degree or 5-8 years equivalent experience with control systems background.

  17. Possess a thorough working knowledge of complex automated manufacturing equipment, computer technologies and programming languages to effectively and efficiently perform installation, diagnosis and repair/maintenance of control systems and their related logic systems.

  18. Proven experience integrating, programming, and troubleshooting of complex automation controls. (Required: ABB RSLOGIX 500, ABB Drive set up and programming, and ABB SLC 500 platform. Preferred: Siemens Simatic Step 7)

  19. Ability to develop, read and interpret engineering schematics, drawings, technical manuals and other necessary references. Ability to interpret statistical process data in evaluating equipment performance.

  20. Possess working knowledge of diagnostic/troubleshooting equipment including computers, diagnostic software, measuring devices, calibration equipment, specialized hand tools, etc. needed for performing duties.

  21. Possess excellent organizational, oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

  22. Ability and willingness to implement team concepts and continuous improvement in working with other employees.

  23. Must utilize all required personal protective equipment.

  24. Must participate as a team member in a 12 week WCM Green Belt project within 6 months of position entry.

  25. Utilize tools and knowledge acquired from Green Belt project team participation to lead and successfully complete a WCM project. Completion of a WCM Yellow Belt certification or above within 1 year of position entry is required to remain in position/grade level.
