This position is to be part of the Coated Abrasives industrial team being the gate keeper and advisor on M4.0 for the SOA.

Brief Description

As M4.0 Automation Engineer, you will be responsible to ensure the roll-out and development of M4.0 within the SOA and within all plants of its assigned region

You will be part of the Coated Industrial team, and you will be responsible to integrate the M4.0 technologies and concepts within the Industrial strategy and new equipment.

You will be responsible to maintain the system and be the gate keeper of the standardization.

Responsibilities

The M4.0 Automation Engineer is responsible for a project from start to finish, rather than focusing on one particular part of the process.

This individual shall lead our effort to evaluate, analyze and develop automation processes that improve safety, quality, efficiency and standardization across the multiple Saint-Gobain Abrasives Coated manufacturing facilities. In this job function, the Senior Automation Engineer will work closely with our Project Engineering, Quality Department, Operations and Management at all levels, as well as outside Engineering and Integration resources, to develop and implement our automation strategy.

The responsibilities of the Senior Automation Engineer will extend to all activities related to manufacturing of Coated facilities. This individual will apply the technological principles needed to provide full life-cycle support of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems for the equipment at our plants. This individual can be involved in developing and designing the concept, testing, installation and monitoring of automation processes. This individual will work with the team to ensure that all applicable project objectives, policies, procedures, state and federal laws, and ISO requirements are met.

  • Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for our manufacturing automation environment and applications.

  • Directly support Engineering, World Class Manufacturing (WCM), Operations, Maintenance and Quality departments with implementation, troubleshooting and resolution regarding computer and automated systems and processes.

  • Partner with Saint-Gobain Technology Services (SGTS) to develop strategy and implement Plant-wide IT standards compliance.

  • Develop and direct strategy and methods of Good Automated Manufacturing Practices (GAMP).

  • Ensure company is current with industry guidance and trends to assure GAMP compliance.

  • Enforce change control and back-up processes and monitor compliance.

  • Develop and create automation engineering SOPs, test plans and technical reviews.

  • Direct and support the evaluation of new technologies.

  • Acquire knowledge of and document existing Plant processes.

  • Lead the development and implementation of strategies for upgrade, expansion, continuous improvement, life cycle, and preventive maintenance of the PLC, HMI and Industrial Network environments.

  • Lead or participate on projects in the design, development, system integration and qualification of automated processes, equipment, and systems; including project management and working with internal staff and outside vendors to ensure anticipated activities and outputs are planned and effectively executed.

  • Assist in the development, installation, inspection and maintenance of new or enhanced mechanical and/or electrical equipment.

  • Develop process control solutions utilizing Programmable Logic Controllers, Human Machine Interfaces and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems.

  • Lead the development of standardized automation HMI screens Plant-wide.

  • Troubleshoot, modify and advise on ladder logic program applications for Plant processes and machinery.

  • Provide training and knowledge sharing to Instrument Technicians and other automation support personnel

  • Prior experience working within an industrial manufacturing facility in the maintenance or operations group.

  • Previous HMI programming experience, primarily Inductive Automation Ignition, Allen-Bradley Factory Talk View Studio and Wonderware InTouch.

  • Previous experience programming ladder logic PLC's, primarily Allen-Bradley, Siemens and ABB.

  • Previous experience programming and configuring servo motion controls, primarily Allen-Bradley Kinetix and Yaskawa Motion Works.

  • Understanding of Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) and Management of Change (MOC).

  • Previous experience with continuous web handling, bulk conveying, servo motion control, machine automation, batching and process loop controls.

  • Training and coaching skills.

  • Project management skills.
